2011-06-01 Holmdel, NJ - RIPCORD HELL

Bad weather this morning. Downloading WSPanic shows and continuing on in 2011

Show #5, Holmdel #2
This looks like a "sleeper" show on paper. Good news is that I very much like the songs being played and that is 90% of the occasional struggle of getting through a show for me :p

First Tube was raging as an opener - I'm not used to it opening!
Stealing Time From the Faulty Plan - I never would've picked it for slot 2 but IT ACTUALLY WORKED PERFECTLY! WOW!!!

Wow, there's not a single song in this whole show that I "dislike". Let's keep goin

------------------------------------

Seven Below>Kill Devil Falls

THAT WAS BULL### WHAT THE EFF GUYS YOU START THE JAM THEN FADE IT OUT AS SOON AS IT BEGAN AND LAUNCH INTO ANOTHER SONG BOO BOO BOO BOO BOO !!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a song guy - jams are the icing on the cake for me - but this was DUMB, yo! The guys start diving into space and within a MINUTE decide instead to end the song and launch into KDF.

I love KDF and this one ROCKS but if this was 1999 that Seven Below would've gone for 20 minutes of amazeballs.

Gah, that was so lame. :p

:D

At least this KDF is AWESOME!

--------------------------------------------

Man, it's been taking me all day to get through this - halfway through set 1 stuff came up around the house.

Got home a few hours later and am now up to Piper

This show is bipolar as hell. They keep sidling up to the edge of the abyss, ready to launch into a jam (Seven Below, Carini, Ghost....) but then they just....don't.

These are even dreaded ripcord versions! They just...end the song instead of going into jam mode. Extremely odd. You kinda half to hear it.

The energy is sky high and I love the setlist, but they (Trey) have their foot on the brake for some reason tonight. Super weird.

Carini>Piper>Twist

OW! IT HURTS! NO MORE RIPCORDING PLEASE!!!

LOOK AT THIS FREAKIN SETLIST YO!!!!

SET 1: Chalk Dust Torture, Roggae > Punch You in the Eye, The Moma Dance > Rock and Roll, Sand, Tube > Divided Sky, Character Zero

SET 2: After Midnight > Possum, Drowned > Maze, Dirt, Alaska, You Enjoy Myself

ENCORE: Fire

This is either gonna be the greatest show of all time or the biggest letdown of all time - with a setlist like that I'm betting on the latter, lol. Especially after 3 incredible shows in a row, time for a come down (I hope not, though!)

Good stuff so far.

Chalkdust Torture - RAGING BEAST
Roggae - excellent version with Trey peaking higher than the sky.
Punch You in the Eye - Tries its best but pretty "stiff". The rhythms can't seem to lock into place properly. The notes were all hit though, so that counts

Some shows have that "magical" full-show-one-piece vibe where it all blends into a cohesive total.

Other shows feel like separate tracks, ya dig?

All 3 Bethel shows were the former but this definitely has the latter vibe.

Coming up on the end of Set 1, the whole first set was pretty sick from start to finish. Really, other than a stilted (but still good!) PYITE and that "holy crap you have to hear Trey's blunder in this Divided Sky", the first set was as good or better than any of the Bethel first sets, imo.

Rock and Roll
Sand
Moma Dance
Chalkdust Torture
Roggae

All FIVE of those had spectacular hotter-than-the-sun Type I explosive jams of the highest order. Terrific stuff.

All in all I rate set 1 a definite winner

------------------------------------------------------------

So far on this tour its 4-4!! Not a dud yet!

What's the answer? This friggin' show. That's what.

Some shows are a journey - others are just hot as hell and like to curbstomp you into the pavement with FORCE.

This is very much the latter :D

If you want a good show to throw on for a sunny afternoon drive rockin' down the highway, grab this.
