Odd to have Lengthwise open the show, but then its into Llama. This Llama is surprisingly laid back compared to most! I thought my face was gonna be melted, and while there is the usual amount of string ripping going on, I can definitely say I've heard hotter Llamas.
Makisupa Policeman - Ooh ooh I actually really like this!!! I'm not a MP fan and usually wait for it to end but this has some great grooves going on. I'd love a giant jam off of this version.
Actually it does kinda start to go ultra ambient, but then Page signals
Foam and we get one of the most awesome segues I've ever heard into,
well, Foam! Trey counts us off and we are off to the races!
THIS WAS AWESOME!
Stash - lengthy but felt "regular". Very rarely am I extra impressed by
Stash - unless they magically do an extended jam, most sound very
similar in my experience. Now, they are mostly great but one version of
Stash usually blends into the next for me, ya dig?
Ginseng is Ginseng
FLUFFHEAD!
I don't know what is going on, but this version just has... IT.
This one has that magical X Factor that you can't describe. You just
hear it and go "wow...that was REALLY freaking good!". They guys are TIGHT and each composed section is performed flawlessly. Really amazing how terrific this band could be....
Horn>David Bowie
Ooh this is super cool - just like that Maki>Foam, we get another
jam/segue from Horn into Bowie. This is the kind of thing in 98 or 99
they would've latched onto and rode for 20 minutes, but instead its just
a cool little link here. Great stuff.
Set 2 opened perfectly with that Buried Alive>Rift though!!! They are really nailing those segues and song choices tonight, eh?!
Bathtub Gin
WOW!!!!
Only 8 minutes in and they've already left planet earth far behind in the rear view mirror! Vocal scatting and wacky jamming into a full blown Weekapaug jam!
The Weekapaug jam devolves back into Gin, but then everyone starts going
nuts like we are at the redneck hillbilly hootenanny from hell!
I'm lacking words to describe all of this. It's just...insanity. Yea, that's the word.
