2019-06-11 St. Louis, MO

Starting summer tour 2019 right now

6/11 St. Louis

And right off the friggin bat, we get our faces melted with a one-for-the-books Cool Amber and Mercury

You'd think they'd been playing it for years!!! Absolutely FANTASTIC opener!

I couldn't believe how good that was. Talk about unexpected awesomeness!

:bigeek:

 ------------------------------------------------

46 Days brought the darkness and funk, but Stash on the other hand...

Where do I begin? HOW do I begin?!

Is this one of the most cohesive and unique jams of recent times? Definitely. Also, the return to the main song theme out of the jam was flawless.

Return transitions just do NOT happen like that in 3.0 :p

Incredibly cool uplifting vibe on this jam. X Factor stuff, yo.

----------------------------------------------

Free was very good but not worthy of the highlights list.
Very, very nice segue into Theme From the Bottom. Cool Leslie jamming from Trey. A nice lengthy Type I affair but probably worth checking out.

Good stuff

-----------------------------------------

After a dark and funky "late-night" sounding Tube that kicks all kinds of tail, we get the Phish debut of Drift While You're Sleeping.
I'm not ultra-familiar with the Ghosts songs yet (even Ruby Waves or About to Run) so these will be pretty fresh to me.
I like the multi-sectional nature of this song and the guys do good transitioning from one part to another.
I DO like the reggae part - come at me :p

Dad rock for the win - I don't care! :)

Pretty good set closer, imo, especially for the first night of a tour - We move through stormy weather and love will carry us through, indeed!!!
A natural peak to a near flawless set.

Seriously, this first set was all-killer, no filler. Really.

That Stash is mandatory listening and this Drift to close is just sublime.

Freaking. Awesome. Good job boys

----------------------------------------

After getting sidetracked by Midnight Oil last night, tonight I am resuming play of 6/11/19 St. Louis

Set 2 looks awesome on paper. And it is. Set one was nearly perfect, imo and so far the first 46 minutes of set 2 have kept the standards high!!!

They are doing a LOT of great jamming tonight - they are just doing it in shorter time frames (a 10 minute Gin and Ghost rather than 25 minute beasts).

No Men>
Bathtub Gin
Ghost>
Piper

^^^^^ Forget the lengths, these are loaded with top notch jamming and goods.

Not that .NET is the be-all-end-all, but holy hell people have their heads in the sand with this show -

On there is has a 3.3 rating

A 3.FRIGGIN.3?!?!?!??!

Wrong. Just wrong. We are not listening to the same show. This show kicks all kinds of ass and for a tour opener to have so little rust and be so full of beans is pretty uncommon, I would think, no?

Yes, I know I'm King Sycophant over here, but good lord, this show is strong as heck.:shrug::shrug:

I don't get it

--------------------------------------

Simple

Unfortunately a less-than-stellar outing for the song, but the jam is just gorgeous (be prepared to see that word a lot in my highlights list....).
Absolutely terrific, terrific chill kinda jamming for a few minutes. Just pure bliss, yo.

---------------------------------------

Not the whole setlist but it might as well be...here's my highlights list for 6/11/19 :)

6/11/19 St. Louis** (Spectacular first set - nearly FLAWLESS. Shorter jams in 2nd set but the quality is high. Wonderful tour opener from start to finish! .NET ratings are WRONG!!!!)

Cool Amber and Mercury (Great opener! Wonderfully TIGHT, lots of energy, Page samples, Trey is rippin...)
46 Days (FUNK. DARK, NASTY, DANK FUNK. DESTROYS!)
Stash (17 minutes!!! Extremely cool "beachy" Type II. Wind sounds, fuzz bass, triangles...Unique!!! Returns to the song FLAWLESSLY. HOLY CRAP THIS STASH IS INCREDIBLE.)
Theme From the Bottom (Great > out of Free. Awesome extended Type I)
Tube (ULTRA Funky. Late-night vibes. Peaks HOT!)
Drift While You're Sleeping (Debut. DESTROYS WORLDS. PERFECT SET CLOSER. SPECTACULAR!!!!)
No Men In No Man's Land (Very cool Type II - goes dark and light, but has a soft and "airy" feel to much of it. Very jubilant but covers lots of ground! Dissolves into funky, hazy, minimalist ambiance.)
>Bathtub Gin (Beautiful version! Not super lengthy, but peaks HARD!!!)
Ghost (See Bathtub Gin. Hot Type I into watery, ambient Type II. Gorgeous.)
>Piper (Very cool. Morphs into some jazzy quasi-ambient textures. SOARING Trey, ala Camden 99 Chalkdust.)
>Blaze On (Very relaxed. Takin it EZEE)
Joy (Absolutely heart wrenching)
Slave to the Traffic Light (Very lengthy, terrific set closer)
Turtle In the Clouds (Another strong one!)
Character Zero
