2 23 97 Cortemaggiore this afternoon while running errands. On mobile.
Been looking forward to this gig a ton. The unique Carinin opener and setlist picks (Sloth, finall All Things...).
The Carini opener is sick. My understanding is a soundcheck recording gives way to the real song, ala the Big Cypress Meatstick
Cool and unique percussion jamming on this. Only problem is its too short! Certainly unique though!
Sloth is great and All Things is mindblowing. Then we get the most
ridiculous Rift of all time - serious GOAT potential on this one.
Then into a rare-ish for the time Fluffhead. And of course its utterly
friggin FLAWLESS!!! Seriously, holy crap this is a great Fluffhead!!!!!
And its FULL of extra X Factor energy!!!!
10 out of effing 10 jaw on the floor Fluffhead
Strong Bowie up next with a lengthy and chill jam to it. Not my favorite
but others will love it. To be fair, its absolutely epic, but im not a
Bowie guy, so....
And Bowie closes this stellar set.
Hot damn this set was AWESOME!
Home now for set 2 of 2/23/97 Cortemaggiore
Daniel Saw The Stone - Hot damn, let's friggin' go! Pure fire!
Suzy Greenberg - Rages EXTRA hard and sound EXTRA....funky!!! A
portend of things to come?! This has definite hints of that 1997
cow-funk sound about it, imo. Definitely extra funky for sure. 10/10 on
this Suzy. Wow! No, seriously, this Suzy goes above and beyond - completely must hear!
Maze - Ho. Lee. Friggin'. Crap. Nearly 13 dang minutes!!! Insanely epic solo from Page! PLAY IT, LEO!!!! Then
comes Trey. Full of tension, his playing is absolutely Death Star
ridiculous tonight, nearly peaking several times but always pushing
through. Until finally, NUCLEAR FRIGGIN BOMB EXPLOSION OF THE
MILLENNIUM HOLY CHRIST ON A CRACKER!!!! WHAT IS THIS MAZE!?! THIS IS THE
GREATEST, MOST RIDICULOUS MAZE I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE!!! SONIC
NOIZE DESTRUCTION OF THE HIGHEST ORDER!!!!!!!!!!!! MUST HEAR MUST HEAR
MUST HEAR MUST HEAR!!!!!
Good golly Miss Molly!!!
The Horse/Silent In the Morning - Good set placement. Love the spanish
noodling before The Horse. Sounds perfect coming out of Maze.
Peaches En Regalia - Another splendid 1997 version of Peaches is
up next (third of the tour, no?). Everyone nails their parts and they do
Uncle Frank proud! Doesn't really need to be highlighted, but it's
probably the best one yet.
Mike's Song - Mammoth 15 minute rendition with much lauded "2nd jam". The first jam is very dark and scary, and downright groovy at times. Very DARK! Around
9 minutes, this shifts into a decidedly upbeat feel! If this was 2023,
you would say they were headed for blissful jamming, so to speak. The
jam heads into a very strange, ambient lanscape. This is freaking
sick. This sounds like something hazy out of summer 1999. Very quiet and
ambient and hazy. This is both beautiful and strange (or as Prince
would say - Beautiful Strange!). Wow! The X Factor is out tonight!
>Why Don't We Do It In the Road - Out of the haze, a loony,
Fish-led version of the Beatles non-classic appears. First since Glen
Falls, no? Hot damn, what is going on?!
>Hold Your Head Up - You know a show is going off the rails when this sucker pops up.
Good Times Bad Times - To close. Gotta love it.
Billy Breathes and Rocky Top encore. Disappointing encore but what can ya do?
Top 3 show of the tour so far. Easily. Probably 3rd place behind
Amsterdam and Florence. Don't forget Rome though - for as "slight" as it
is in comparison to a monster like this, it was still a terrific show
on it's own. But I digress - ALL HAIL CORTEMAGGIORE!!
