Europe, Spring 1997, in conclusion:
14 shows. Not a lot to love, but certainly a lot to like. Will I ever feel the need to replay 2/3 of these shows ever again? NO. Hard no!
IMHO, these are probably the best of the bunch:
**denotes exceptional show
2/13 London
2/17 Amsterdam**
2/21 Florence**
2/23 Cortemaggiore
2/26 Stuttgart
3/1 Hamburg**
3/2 Copenhagen* (almost worthy of **)
Sleeper picks, strong shows without much really going on:
2/16 Cologne
2/18 Paris
2/22 Rome
All in all, I guess I liked more than I disliked, but that's a
given with me and Phish. The tour really seemed to pick up once they hit
Italy and Germany, I think. There were flashes of brilliance here and
there, but full-show classics were almost non-existant. 2/17, 2/23 and
3/1 are probably my picks in that regard.
As I kept saying - a ton to LIKE but little to LOVE.
Underrated tour? No, not really. Worth listening through at least once? Probably, but not really.
Do I regret doing this? No. Would I do it again? Hell no.
A friendly place to find some sick tunes :) Notes direct from my original Hoffman Forums posts!
