On to night two of Noblesville 2012
6/29
Set 1
Crowd Control - Never my favorite song and one that I often find clunky if not played just exactly right . This is one of the best sounding live CC's I've heard. Great version!!!
Dinner and a Movie - One of my absolute favorite songs, this one
is pretty good until the end when Trey has a stumble, but on the whole
for such a rarity, it definitely gets a reccomendation.
SWEET JANE - !!!!!!!!!!!!! WHO SAW THIS COMING?! NOBODY! THAT'S WHO! AND ITS AWESOME!!!!
Following Sweet Jane there is some funny banter between Trey and Page regarding audience signs....
Limb By Limb - Frickin' rips, yo. Awesome LxL. Very hot!
Possum - Longest intro of all time?! Goes for over a minute!!!! Beat It On Down The Line ain't got nothing on Possum! As expected, Possum destroys worlds.
Mound - All hail Mound! Mandatory highlight.
Life On Mars - Sweet Jane, DaaM, Mound...what else are they going
to pull out?! Friggin' Bowie, that's what. Good lord!!! Automatic
highlight #2. Best part is the guys absolutely nail it. Trey even hits
all the guitar runs flawlessly.
The Mango Song - AWESOME. As with everything else so far, there isn't much to say. It's loaded with energy and performed expertly. Great stuff!
>Big Black Furry Creature From Mars - C'mon Fishman, what the
heck. What took you so long to jump on it?! Gah....Anyway - completely
unexpected and great fun as always
Strange Design - And the rarities continue. Again great to hear and lovely as always.
Birds of a Feather - destroys
Halley's Comet - Killer as always.
While My Guitar Gently Weeps - See Sweet Jane!!
All in all, an aboslutely killer set. There really isn't very much
to say about it! Just an action-packed set completely loaded with
rarities that delivers tons of energy and a good flow. This is one set
where the setlist DOES tell the whole story. Don't look for outer space
craziness - enjoy the epic fast-food pizza in front of you.
Set 2
Down With Disease - A 15 minute DWD to open set 2? Yes please!
This one stays firmly in the box though it does hint at some tasty "Type
1.5" kinda stuff where they could jump off the deep end but instead keep it reigned in. Either way, a terrifically SCORCHING beast of a DWD!! Headbang city!!!
>Sand - More Type I dance party awesomeness with a genuine
Weekapaug tease picked up on by the crowd. Awesome Sand. Nothing
unexpected but still delivers the goods. Cool bit at the end where Trey
gradually lowers the key of the Sand theme bit by bit until eventually
he arrives at....
>Twist - Twist is extremely fun and slightly demented tonight!
>Rift - Somehow we get a decent transition from Twist into Rift. Huh. Good but nothing special at all.
>Bathtub Gin - Some funny stuff from Trey though, vocalizing
with his pinging guitar lines. Pretty short but shifts back into a
blatant Twist jam halfway through. Page jumps on the synth and things
get a little wacky for a few minutes. Pretty interesting little oddball
Gin!
>Fluffhead - It's Fluff. It's great.
Ride Captain Ride - AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME FRIGGIN
AWESOME!!!! THIS IS THE BEST THING IN THE SHOW SO FAR! X FACTOR VERSION.
A+++++++++ SO FREAKING GOOD!
>Run Like an Antelope - Antelope is Antelope. See Possum. Excellent as always!
Cavern - Is Cavern
Sanity - Is Sanity, but mega rarity points!
First Tube - Explosions everywhere
All in all, this was the epitome of Jukebox Phish pretty much, but
the pure freaking energy level and the insanely sick setlist keep it
from being a poor show. If you want a no-nonsense gig to bang your head
along to going down the highway for a few hours THIS IS IT!!! It doesn't
have a patch on night 1 as far as I'm concerned but it is still a
strong show. Very hard to describe actually! It's disappointing in some
ways but the sheer enthusiasm and energy (and again, the setlist)
elevate to the threshold of the next level. Probably a 4.0 if I were to
rate it on .NET.
