2 26 23 Mexico #4
Set 1
Ugh, whar happenned! Easily the worst set of the 4 shows so far.
Sigma and Bowie try hard but end up doing nothing. Wolfman gets a little
bit of a jam going but ultimately disappoints. Tube is a complete and
utter waste. Then to add insult to injury, a mediocre Caspian follows.
Mull starts with Mikes vocal mic cut off ultimately delivers not much
beyond pleasant Type I....A decent Ghost followed by a sleep inducing
Coil with a rote Possum to close...
Ugh....
So set 1 ended with the worst Squirming Coil ive ever heard. Lousy and pathetic.
Set 2 looks DOA on paper from the start, but thankfully the opening
Possum is killer (of course). The real surprise is the MUST HEAR Julius
that follows! Exceptional version on all fronts with great interplay
between everyone!
You Enjoy Myself is INCREDIBLY rusty tonight. Its basically falling
apart. But the newfound energy and enthusiasm is rampant throughout and
the jamming is patient and perfect. It ends up being way better than it
has any right to he and its gotta be the best one Ive heard in a hot
minute!
Great surprise!
Everythings Right and Simple are both spectacular and MUST HEAR! ER has a wonderfuly slow, chill-groove, that grows and grows and grows into a massive hose explosion!!!
Simple is a Type II robot groove dance party. Massive hose peaking as well. Mandatory listening. INCREDIBLY AWESOME!!!!!
A wonderful Number Line is next. Almost 10 minutes long, it's the
perfect cooldown that also keeps the momentum going. Red hot version
with a killer hose peak!!!
Hour Party Suzy with extra OOMPH to close the set!!! INCREDIBLE JAMMING! SPECIAL!!!
All in all, set 2 was a million times better than the garbage first set.
Everythings Right, Suzy and Simple are must hear and the rest is
excellent! Julius and YEM are noteworthy as well!!! This set was at
least as good as night 3s 2nd set, in a different way.
For the encore, we get the first McGrupp since Dicks 2021 followed by a
nice, but warbly, Waste with a "oh so perfect" Slave to close. How perfect!
McGrupp is surprisingly tight and Waste almost made me cry. Its a serious tearjerker tonight. Extra emotional. And Slave....
Overall, id rate this show a 3.8 or so. Toss the entire first set, but give the 2nd set a listen! How
in the hell ER and Simple are not jam charted is a massive
mystery....Also this set felt like it had extra poignance or something.
Last night in Mexico, etc etc. Good stuff!!
